Recommended Approach to Upgrading

To upgrade to newer versions of the Hubble Desktop application, it is strongly recommended to run both the new version and the current version in parallel. This allows for a testing and user acceptance phase before going live with the new version in the production environment.

Failure to complete a parallel installation and testing phase could result in data corruption or data loss of reporting information (Users, Reports, Templates, and so on) and/or budgeting and planning information.

The following sections guide through the process, which includes the following tasks:

  1. Back up important information from the current version:

    • Object Repository

    • Budgeting/Planning Data (if applicable)

  2. Create new databases:

    • Hubble repository

    • Budgeting (if applicable)

  3. Install the new version in parallel to the current version.

  4. Create a new object repository for the new version.

  5. Restore backups:

    • Repository backup into the new object repository

    • Budgeting/Planning data (if applicable)

  6. Configure the new Hubble Administration Tool to use the new Object Repository.

  7. Apply a new temporary license key in the new version.

  8. Add or reconfigure Connections and Profiles to capture the latest information.

  9. If budgeting/planning is used, configure to use the latest budgeting/planning data files.

  10. Assign permissions to new connections and profiles.

  11. Import the CustomerPK file from the current version to the new version.

  12. Confirm the upgrade was successful.

Additionally, information is provided on:

  • End user testing and additional Hubble installs.

  • The go-live process, including preparation and final cut-over steps.
